General Cannabis Subsidiary WeedMaps Media Acquires WeedLaws

December 8, 2011. General Cannabis, Inc. announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary WeedMaps Media, Inc. has acquired the Android application WeedLaws.  The app allows users to research local marijuana laws.  WeedMaps Media, Inc. operates Weedmaps.com, the largest dispensary finder site in the United States.  Justin Hartfield, Chief Web Officer of WeedMaps, said “our new WeedLaws application will assume the WeedMaps brand after improvements to its content and functionality are completed.  We look forward to its re-release next quarter.” Read the full press release here.

Chubbs’ YouTube Channel Terminated; Launches New NUGGETRY TV

December 4, 2011.  Today, visitors to the popular Marijuana Reviews channel on YouTube were greeting with the following message “This account has been terminated due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines and/or claims of copyright infringement.”  The channel had amassed over five million video views and well over one million channel views at the time of its termination, and included hundreds of informational videos about marijuana featuring Chubbs, who operates California Patients Association, a medical marijuana dispensary in Southern California where his Nuggetry strains are sold.  Chubbs posted a video on his secondary YouTube channel responding to YouTube’s actions:

Chubbs promptly launched a new video site called NUGGETRY TV and re-uploaded several of his latest videos, which are now streamed through Vimeo.  Chubbs has not yet stated whether the hundreds of videos from his former YouTube channel will be made available for viewing on the new site.

Steve DeAngelo Urges Supporters to Call the White House

October 11, 2011. Steve DeAngelo, founder of Harborside Health Center, a dispensary in Oakland, California, urges supporters to call the White House to demand an end to federal harassment of California medical marijuana providers. Despite President Obama’s 2009 pledge to respect state cannabis laws, on Friday, October 7th California’s four US Attorneys announced aggressive plans to criminally prosecute providers of medical cannabis. The White House Comments Line, 202-456-1111, operates from 6 AM to 2 PM, PDT. “80% of Americans support medical cannabis,” explains DeAngelo, “The only question is whether patients should get the medicine they need from licensed and regulated facilities or from criminals on the street.” Read the full press release here.

At Least 372 Medical Cannabis Dispensaries Still Operate in Los Angeles, Tax Filings Show

The Los Angeles times reports that 372 dispensaries have filed forms with the city’s Office of Finance in preparation for the new 5% business tax on gross dispensary receipts approved by L.A. voters in March.
